OPEN SPACE WORKSHOP 6 / 14:00 - 16:00 CEST / Track 3: Future of Democracy
EU citizens who are residents in another EU country can vote and run in municipal and European elections, but not in regional and national ones. Nor can they generally vote in referendums in their country of residence. Some EU citizens have never been able to vote in a national election simply because they have used their right to freedom of movement. This is a stain on European democracy. Therefore ECIT has launched an ECI “Voters Without Borders” with a task force of young people coming from all over the EU and campaigning for more democracy. It is the perfect example of youth involvement in European politics.
