Limitations to freedom of movement
  • Limitation to most indoor and outdoor non-essential gatherings to 5 people
  • Air traffic and train services are suspended for regular use
  • Entry by air as a third country national from a State outside the Schengen-Area is prohibited
  • Third country nationals traveling from a Schengen country have to carry a medical certificate, proving a negative test result on COVID-19 and have to self-isolate for 14 days
  • People traveling from neighboring countries have to show a negative test upon entry which cannot be older than 4 days
  • Transiting Austria without stopover is still allowed

   13 April:

  • The government announced the ease of some restrictions (opening business...).

   27 April:

  • The government extend the border control with EEA member states until 7 May. Further extended land borders with Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Slovakia and Czechia until 31 May.

   4 May:

  • All lockdown restrictions have been lifted.

15 May:

  • Restaurants are allowed to reopen and welcome guests

29 May:

  • Tourist accommodations, as well as leisure centers and zoos are allowed to reopen.

4 June:

  • Border controls to bordering countries have been ceased

16 June:

  • No mandatory 14-day quarantine for travelers from most European countries (except Sweden, UK and Portugal)

1 July:

  • Contact and team sports may resume

9 July:

  • Social distancing restrictions (1 m) still prevail
