The first tool of participatory democracy at the transnational level, the European Citizens’ Initiative, must be reformed and strengthened. This has been decided by the European Parliament. Now a campaign by non-governmental organisations increases the pressure on other EU institutions to move forward.
The campaign for a “more powerful European Citizens’ Initiative” has been coordinated by our NGO partner “Democracy International” in cooperation with other organizations like “Mehr Demokratie Deutschland“, “WeMove.EU” and the “ECI Campaign“. Together with “ECAS” they offer an “ECI Support Centre” for citizens and organizations.
