In 2024, the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy headed to Eastern Europe for the first time. This edition of the Global Forum has been hosted locally by Europuls, the European Expertise Centre, in Romania.
Bucharest welcomed more than 300 participants from all over the world to discuss issues of direct democracy with a specific focus on the theme of trust. The Forum reflected its variegated topics of debate in the unique venues where it was held– the Bucharest Parliament, the historical Teatrul de Revista, and the Faculty of Sociology of the University of Bucharest. Around 30 sessions a day were held with a total of more than 150 speakers.
Ranging from panels, workshops, and bootcamps, people from all continents engaged in discussions on contemporary direct democracy challenges and opportunities through theories and active practices. Spotlights were given to the topic of elections, being 2024 the biggest election year in history, and to the important role of youth in defending and promoting direct democracy, an interest showcased in the large group of young people that took part in the Forum.
Thank you for participating and contributing to the 2024 edition of the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy.
