DETAILS
When it was announced in 2019 that a two-year Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE) will launch on Europe Day, 9 May 2020, there was hope that the EU may finally start to see the makeover it needed, even setting the stage for a possible new EU Treaty, using innovative democratic tools such as citizens’ assemblies to rewrite Europe from the bottom-up. However, between an institutional deadlock and one of the biggest health, economic and social crises of our time, the project is at a standstill.
What is the current status of the ambitious project? If, and when, the CoFoE is launched, how should it look? How can citizens and civil society use the prolonged window of opportunity to influence the process and agenda? Join civil society members and Members of the European Parliament’s Working Group on the CoFoE as we discuss these questions and more.
This online session is organized by Democracy International and The Good Lobby.
